Q: How should I start choosing music? Is there a list that I can choose from, or does the DJ make suggestions?

A: Prior to meeting personally with your DJ, it’s a great idea to start compiling lists of music that you like, think your friends and family like, and will be good for listening or dancing at your wedding reception. Take that list to the meeting with your DJ and get his advice and opinions on how well he thinks it will work…He might also have some lists of popular wedding reception music to share with you.

You know your guests, and he knows what really works at wedding receptions. The best mix of music is one that changes throughout the event and engages your guests in a way that gets them on and off of the dance floor from beginning to end.

A couple of tips: Survey your most trusted friends and family for the titles of a few songs that they would definitely dance to if played and add them to your request list. And be sure to give your DJ a DO NOT Play List with specific instructions, such as “play only if requested” or “do not play under any circumstances”.
